2016 UB Techne Institute Master’s Thesis Project Fund

The Techne Institute is pleased to offer funding for University at Buffalo Master’s Students completing Thesis Projects with the goal of graduating in Spring 2016. The maximum award amount is $1,000.

Projects should integrate the arts with emerging technologies, including but not limited to digital art, electronic music, interactive computer programs, and mediated performance. Students pursuing MFA in Art and Media Study, M Arch, MM in Music, MA in Theatre and Performance and MS degrees are encouraged to apply.

Please note that funding is for the completion of projects, the hands-on, creative output of the degree program, rather than the written thesis. Fund recipients are asked to acknowledge Techne Institute support at any public exhibitions or presentations of the final project.

Please submit one PDF with the following information:

  • A Current Resume (1500 Characters.)
  • Grant Narrative

Please respond to each of the following questions in the grant narrative.

  1. Project Description (1500 characters, with spaces)
    Provide a detailed description of your project. How does your project integrate art and emerging technologies?
  2. Personal Statement (1000 characters, with spaces)
    Describe yourself as an artist. What are your artistic goals how does this project relate to them?
  3. Funding Impact (500 characters, with spaces)
    What impact will funding from the Techne Institute have on your project? Will you be able to complete the project without Techne Institute funding?
  4. Budget Justification (500 characters, with spaces)
    Describe in detail how funding from the Techne Institute would be used towards your project. Explain any expenses or income that may not be clear.

2016 Student Organized Conference Funding

The Techne Institute is pleased to offer funding for University at Buffalo Master’s and PhD Students conference and symposia organizing for Spring 2016. The maximum award amount is $2,000. Events must take place before June 30, 2016.

Event should integrate the arts with emerging technologies, including but not limited to digital art, electronic music, interactive computer programs, and mediated performance. Students pursuing graduate work in Art, Visual Studies, Media Study, Architecture, Music, Theatre and Performance are encouraged to apply.

Fund recipients are asked to acknowledge Techne Institute support at any public exhibitions or presentations of the final project. Funds may be used for honoraria, food, lodging, travel, supplies, etc. Unused funds must be returned to the Techne Institute.
